A few months ago we started working with Greg Fields to explore opportunities in the youth mental health space. Only 21.5% of youth (between 10-20 years old) seek help and have the means to pay for it. The rest--a whopping 78.5%--either don’t want to get help or can’t afford it.
Greg has dedicated a significant amount of his life to helping youth face terrible challenges. And today, we’re excited to announce a new startup being funded and built through Highline Beta’s venture studio that we hope can make a real difference.
12x AI is still at a very early stage, but we’ve been experimenting with the potential for AI Influencers that meet youth where they are (primarily online) and are provided positive content on a daily basis. This is a light touch, non-invasive way of creating positivity through social media (which unfortunately, is often the opposite).
Today is National Children’s Mental Health Awareness Day in the US and Mental Health Week in Canada, so we couldn’t think of a better time to make this announcement.
“We need scalable, affordable solutions for youth mental health,” said Ben Yoskovitz, Founding Partner at Highline Beta. “This is an uncomfortable and difficult conversation, but the issues aren’t going away, they’re only going to get worse if we don’t bring creative solutions to the problem.”
Aileen is our first Youth Mental Health AI Agent. Trained from a variety of sources including crisis text line training data, call centre scripts, youth-caregiver relationships and more, Aileen posts content through IG and TikTok with the hope of engaging youth in a positive way. She also engages youth in direct message conversations and can do phone conversations too--always being very clear she’s an AI--to provide support, guidance and direction where she can.
To be clear, our goal isn’t to replace therapists. But accessibility and affordability remain significant issues. We believe more has to be done to support an already stretched youth mental health industry.
AI Influencers is a new area of growth and opportunity. For many it might feel strange, but we’re already seeing young people willing to engage proactively with Aileen, knowing full well that she’s an AI agent. There are plenty of examples of extremely popular AI Influencers, but none that are focused on positive affirmations and youth mental health.
12x AI remains in Highline Beta’s venture studio as we continue to develop the MVP, test go-to-market and finalize the initial pre-seed financing round. We’re also exploring the B2B potential for 12x AI, because we see a lot of synergies with companies that are committed to supporting youth mental health both online and offline.
If you’re an investor, corporate partner or youth mental health advocate that wants to get involved in supporting 12x AI and our mission to improve youth mental health, please get in touch!
